Our History

Doobay-Gafoor Medical & Research Centre Inc. is a registered Not-for-Profit organization that opened its door on September 15, 2011. Most of our funding and support has been from donations, including our building which was donated by Gafsons Industries Ltd. The continued support for the company has been through local and overseas donors which include Voice of the Vedas Cultural Sabha (VOVCS), International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF), McMaster University among many others.

Dr. Budhendranauth Doobay, our Medical Director, is an eminent Guyanese Canadian Philanthropist and vascular surgeon who have received a number of awards, including the Order of Ontario and the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals in Canada.

Our Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mrs.Ameena Gafoor is a prominent Guyanese writer who has also received numerous awards, which includes the Golden Arrow of Achievement and Medal of Service awards in Guyana.
